Bisket Jatra is one of the oldest festival celebrated in Madhyapur Thimi and Bhaktapur area of Nepal. It is believed that this Jatra was first initiated at the time of King Jagat Jyoti Malla since the 12th Century.
It is celebrated as ‘the festival after death of serpent’ and ‘festival of mating of god Bhairav and goddess Bhadrakali’.
Bisket Jatra is celebrated around the Nepali New Year and is celebrated by pulling chariot, playing with colors (sindhur), playing traditional music and dancing.
